Bring home a trophy, Cavs

Star-Tribune Editorial Board

The Wyoming Cavalry has already done its home city proud.

After compiling an impressive 13-3 record in its inaugural American Indoor Football Association season, the Cavs will be playing in the league's championship game Friday in South Carolina. Wyoming will square off against the Florence Phantoms.

What a difference a year makes. In 2007, the Cavalry played an unofficial "title" game after most of the teams in the National Indoor Football League folded, losing to Fayetteville, N.C., in a meaningless contest.

But there's much on the line as one of the two teams in AIFL Bowl II. The Cavalry has won two postseason games to get there, including last week's exciting 54-26 win over the Mississippi Mudcats. A prolific offense combined with a stingy defense have made the Casper Events Center a rocking place to be during home games all season.

This is undoubtedly the best professional football team Casper has seen since the Cavalry made it to the NIFL championship game in 2001.

This year's squad has given its fans plenty to cheer about, and now it's poised to bring home its first championship trophy. We wish the Cavs the best as they head into enemy territory to play Friday night's title game.
